Chris Innis

Hilary Benn the UK Minister for the Environment, addressed business on the implications of the Climate Change Bill that is being debated in Parliament. In a wide ranging speech that provided few incentives for business, he called for industry participate through carbon trading schemes, innovation and skills programmes and energy production.

These themes, which the Government has touted for some time, are also the cornerstone to its belief that the UK can and should lead in areas of carbon trading and clean technology. The speech did not give guidance on technology preferences that some businesses have been seeking but did emphaises the need to improve reporting for all business.

Benn emphaised that the world was going through a period of profound change which requires business to change.
