Cenex, the UK’s centre of excellence for low carbon and fuel cell technologies, is hosting a one-day discussion forum, ‘Advanced Battery Research in the UK’, at The Royal Horticultural Halls & Conference Centre, Greycoat Street London, on Thursday 13^th March. The forum is being hosted in partnership with the Materials KTN and the Low Carbon and Fuel Cell Technology KTN to prioritise new programmes of work. The event will focus on the available and near-term developments of battery products for electric and hybrid electric vehicles and will establish research priorities batteries for these markets. It is aimed at research workers in universities and industrial electrochemistry and materials science departments, vehicle system developers and integrators, as well as policy makers for low carbon transport.Key topics for discussion will be: Implications of the King Report on low carbon cars for materials research Batteries for electric vehicles - available products and near term developments The UK motor industry and the integration of new-technology batteries into emerging low carbon/low emissions systems Effective deployment of battery electric and hybrid electric vehicles Manufacturing criteria for battery development

The event will be opened by Cenex CEO Robert Evans, followed by Dr Peter Speers, Director, LCFCT KTN and Dr Geoffrey May of Focus Consulting. Dr Robert Quarshie of Materials KTN will speak about the implications of the King Report on low carbon cars for materials research. It is Cenex’s goal that the forum will result in competitive calls for new proposals on battery technology within road transport.
