Chris Innis

The FuturEnergy, the wind turbine manufacturer, has had its micro wind turbine's tested under exetreme cold in the Artic on the French exploration vessel, the Aurora Magnetica.

The turbine was tested at -34ºC (minus 34 degrees centigrade). The one-kilowatt turbine was fixed to the main mast and has shown itself to be totally unaffected by the ferocity of the freezing winds. It has provided a consistent and reliable source of clean non-polluting electricity to supplement the ship's diesel-powered Whispergen co-generation system and bank of eight 175-watt Shell photovoltaic solar cells.
