The Commission for Rural Communities has published

State of the Countryside 2008, the tenth report in the series providing the definitive picture of rural England.

The Report highlights changing nature of the countryside, higher rural poverty, a continuing fall in services and the impact of climate change both on land use, food security and land values.

The press release announcing the Report may be found at http://www.ruralcommunities.gov.uk/files/soc2008%20news%20release.pdf.

The countryside will have an increasingly important part to play in a low carbon economy.  A full report can also be obtained from www.ruralcommunities.gov.uk .
