New Government Sponsored Climate Change Fund for Scotland

Chris Innis

A £18.8 million fund to support communities across Scotland who have imaginative ideas about how to reduce their impact on the climate has been launched. The fund is government sponsored.

Green MSP Patrick Harvie and Richard Lochhead, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment launched the fund at the Shawslands Academy. Patrick Harvie MSP said:

"People across Scotland are coming up with ways to cut their climate emissions while improving their quality of life and strengthening local economies. For the first time, there will now be a substantial fund to support them as they develop these ideas and put them into practice.

"As the first projects demonstrate, communities across Scotland will be able to make use of this money. The ideas from Barra and Vatersay show the scale of ambition in our island communities, where the costs of relying on fossil fuels are high but the opportunities for energy independence are substantial.
