A Johnson

As the second round of the Soil Association consultation on air freight comes to a close, and Tesco trials carbon labelling on selected own brand products, the Food Ethics Council invites you to the launch of their report: Flying food – responsible retail in the face of uncertainty, at:

10 – 11.30am
Wednesday 21st May
at
Development House, 56 – 64 Leonard Street, London, EC2A 4LT.

As the debate on “food miles” versus “fair miles” matures, retailers will see their performance on this issue judged against increasingly clear and challenging benchmarks.

This report sets out our assessment of what those benchmarks will be, based on work with environment and development groups who have shaped the public debate, and will continue to do so. It lays out clear guidance on what retailers should be doing with regard to flying food.

We will present our findings at the launch, which will be attended by representatives from the UK’s major supermarkets and civil society groups, including Ken Hayes from the Soil Association, who will be speaking at the event.

There will be an opportunity for journalists to ask questions at the presentation.
